Van Boekel dealt to Val-d'Or

SAINT JOHN - On the final day of the QMJHL summer trading period Sea Dogs general manager Darrell Young was at work sending defenseman Jack Van Boekel to the Val-d'Or Foreurs.

In return, Saint John receives a third round pick in the 2017 QMJHL draft.

The 19-year-old played 48 games with Saint John this season picking up nine assists and 118 penalty minutes.

"We want to thank Jack for all his hard work with our organization," Young said in a team press release. "He is a first-class individual who defended his teammates on the ice and represented the team well off the ice and in the community."

Listed at six-foot-seven, 203 pounds Van Boekel signed with the team as a free agent before last season.

With a log jam on the blueline and several quality defenseman, it was imperative that someone would be dealt.
