New Player at Camp; Other Notes from Day 2

SAINT JOHN - The Sea Dogs 2015 Training Camp is in full swing with day two now in the books. Tuesdays on-ice sessions consisted of two rookie games and a returnees practice.

17-year-old Alexander Arab was added to the training camp roster on loan from Rouyn-Noranda putting the total to 61 players. Arab played this season with Cole Harbour of the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League totaling 34 points in 32 games. He was a 7th round pick of the Huskies in the 2014 QMJHL Draft.

The Bedford, Nova Scotia native was also a St. Stephen County Aces draft pick in this years MHL draft.

Should Arab crack the Sea Dogs roster, Rouyn-Noranda would recieve some sort of compensation as part of the loan.

After taking in today's action, here are my thoughts from the second day of camp:
  • Anthony Salemi was a scoring machine today.
  • Joe Veleno has unbelievable speed and puck handling skill. He got some playing time with his brother, Mike.
  • Ben Reid had a good showing today, had a couple nice scoring chances.
  • Tonight's game was really rough, a lot of checking.
  • Cedric Pare didn't play after a knee-on-knee collision in the morning game.
  • Dawson Theede and Sean Ginnell were both listed as injured as well.
  • Joe Veleno was on Team Blue tonight after being part of Team White in the morning game.
  • A lot of the vets were in attendance tonight including Thomas Chabot, Spencer Smallman, and Nathan Noel.
  • Morgan Barron impressed with his speed.
  • The Barron-J.Veleno-Salemi line is dangerous.
  • Free agent signing Sam Povorozniouk practiced with the returnees this morning and had a discussion with Mathieu Joseph before they left the ice. He seems to be fitting in nicely.
The schedule for day three of training camp is indentical to the first two days with two rookie games and a returnees practice once again.

Darrell Young and his staff are expected to make the first round of cuts tomorrow with the 48-hour NCAA window coming to a close. Stay tuned to the site or follow @SJSeaDogsLive on Twitter for updates and news on that.
